You’ve met the right person and you realize that your troubles are just starting, right? Where to go on a date, would it be cheap to go to your local bar, is that posh restaurant too much…? Once again, as always, nature has the answer – picnic!
Why is it called a “picnic”?
Picnic is the best option for all relationships, all ages, all marital statuses, all people… The word comes from the French language, from the phrase “pique nique”. It used to describe a sort of a gathering of close people where everybody would bring something to eat or drink together. The expression is at least a few centuries old…
It used to mostly refer to “indoors” in the beginning, but it took the noticeable outdoors turn in the second half of the 19th century. The main things remain the same to this day, and those are that it is an informal social occasion, with some light food, usually homemade, good spirits, and fun.
Useful tips
Although it shouldn’t be too hard to organize an informal occasion such as this, you can make your life easier and, by association, your date more enjoyable with just a few adjustments. So, here goes…
No Messy Foods
No creams, soft cakes, sauces, frostings, or something like that. You are going out, there will be moving, it will be hot, and who knows if you’re going to stop and eat soon or you may decide to go on a lengthy one…
Blanket Weights are your friends
When the weather starts conspiring against the two of you, it can be romantic… But, better not to risk it, otherwise, someone may interpret it as a sign that they are in the wrong place. However, for blanket weights, you can sue any clean rocks nearby, stakes, or your basket and stuff like that.
Wet Wipes and Garbage Bags
Pack these and then, when you think you have enough, pack some more. You will need them, and if not, you will at least look highly organized and neat.
Prepare for Bugs
Flying or crawling, bugs are already there. It is you who are bringing a feast on their territory, so prepare. Using containers with lids is cool, but you can also use oregano essential oil. Spiders hate mint, ants, and flies hate basil, and rosemary is universally effective. Check them out.
Plan activities
Bring something to help you in those moments when the conversation starts to fall off a little bit. A fun game of cards, a board game, or even some tools to make sandcastles can come in handy.
Use Enamel
Enamel dishes are light, they stay clean for longer, they are easy to wash off outdoors and practical, and they look nice. They look cooler and more elegant than plastic or paper dishes, while they also can hold food for longer.
