The Reunion Everyone’s Talking About
Instagram | yahooentertainment | The iconic "Malcolm in the Middle" cast is reuniting for a reboot, thrilling fans twenty years later.
Muniz, Berfield, and Masterson look strikingly different from their teenage days on the FOX sitcom that wrapped in May 2006. Muniz, who played the sharp and curious Malcolm, shared the reunion photo on Instagram with an excited caption:
“I was told not to post this yet, but then I listened to this song. I’m just too excited for y’all to see the new episodes and I miss my brothers.”
The post shows the three actors smiling wide on what appears to be the reboot set. The new series, coming to Disney+ in 2026, has already sparked huge excitement among longtime fans. It’s clear that the chemistry between the cast hasn’t faded with time.
Who’s Returning to the Cast
The limited four-episode reboot will feature much of the original lineup. Bryan Cranston returns as the lovable and quirky dad, Hal. Jane Kaczmarek will again play Lois, the no-nonsense mom who kept her wild household in check. Their hilarious parenting style made “Malcolm in the Middle” one of TV’s most relatable family comedies.
But one key member of the family won’t return. Erik Per Sullivan, who played the youngest brother Dewey, is missing from the reunion photo. While many hoped to see him again, he made a different choice for his life.
Where’s Erik Per Sullivan?

Per Sullivan, once the adorable Dewey, has stepped away from acting completely. Bryan Cranston talked about their conversation on the Fly on the Wall podcast:
“I talked to Erik and said, ‘Hey, we got the show! It’s going to come back,’ and he said, ‘Oh, that’s fantastic!’ I told him, ‘We’re looking forward to having you back,’ and he replied, ‘Oh, no, no, I don’t want to do it. But it’s fantastic.’”
His last on-screen role was in the 2010 thriller "Twelve," which starred Chase Crawford, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Emma Roberts. After that, he decided to focus on his education. Cranston shared that Erik is now pursuing his master’s degree at Harvard.
“He’s really smart,” Cranston added. “He hasn’t acted since he was nine and isn’t interested anymore.”
To continue Dewey’s storyline, actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will now take on the role. Fans are eager to see how he brings a fresh touch to the beloved character.
What Fans Can Expect
The “Malcolm in the Middle” reboot brings back the humor, heart, and offbeat charm that made the original series unforgettable. Featuring returning cast members Frankie Muniz, Justin Berfield, Christopher Masterson, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek, the revival blends nostalgia with a fresh perspective for today’s audience.
Even after two decades, the show’s legacy endures as one of the most relatable family comedies on television. Though Erik Per Sullivan’s Dewey will be missed, the Wilkerson family’s return is set to remind viewers why their chaotic, lovable dynamic still resonates.
