Tips And Tricks For Non-Nature Lovers

Outdoors
May 2, 2023

Experiencing nature can be a beautiful and awe-inspiring experience, but not everyone enjoys it. Perhaps you hate bugs, can't stand the heat, or don't like being outdoors. But just because you don't naturally gravitate towards nature doesn't mean you can't learn to appreciate it. Here are some tips on how to enjoy nature, even if you hate it.

Start Small

If you're someone who doesn't enjoy nature, diving headfirst into a long hike or camping trip might not be the best way to start. Instead, start small—walk around your neighborhood, visit a nearby park or nature reserve, or spend some time in your backyard. This can help you acclimate to being outside and help you feel more comfortable.

Focus on the Sights and Sounds

One way to enjoy nature without getting too close is to focus on the sights and sounds. Look up at the sky, watch the clouds pass, or listen to the birds singing in the trees. You don't need to interact with nature to appreciate it. Sometimes, observing it from a distance can be enough to appreciate its beauty.

Bring Comfortable Gear

If you're uncomfortable, make sure to bring gear that will make you more comfortable. Wear clothes that are appropriate for the weather and comfortable shoes for walking. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray to protect yourself from the elements. Bringing a comfortable chair or blanket can also make a big difference.

Try an Activity

If you're still struggling to enjoy nature, try an activity you enjoy that can be done outside. For example, if you love photography, take your camera out and try to capture the beauty of nature through your lens. Bring a book out and find a peaceful spot if you love reading. You may be more likely to appreciate the natural setting around you by doing an activity you enjoy.

Take a Guided Tour

A guided tour can be a great way to learn more about nature and appreciate it differently. Many parks and nature reserves offer guided tours led by experts who can teach you about the area's plants, animals, and history. By learning more about the natural world around you, you may be able to appreciate it more.

Try Different Seasons

If you don't enjoy being outside in the summer, try visiting nature in the fall or winter. The changing seasons can bring a new perspective to the outdoors. In the fall, you can see the changing colors of the leaves, and in the winter, you can appreciate the beauty of a snowy landscape. By trying different seasons, you may enjoy nature more than you thought.

Focus on the Positive

If you're someone who doesn't enjoy nature, it's easy to focus on the negative aspects. Bugs, heat, and discomfort can all be major turn-offs. But by focusing on the positive aspects of nature, you may be able to change your perspective. Think about the fresh air, the beauty of the trees, or the peacefulness of a quiet outdoor setting.
